In November 2015, 32-year-old Wellington Jighere, from Nigeria, beat 129 competitors to win the World English-language Scrabble Players’ Association championship which took place in Perth, Western Australia. He defeated Englishman Lewis MacKay with four straight wins in the best-of-seven final round. The Nigerian government sponsored Wellington Jighere's trip to Perth and brought home a $10,000 cash prize. He is the first African to win in world scrabble championship,” Jighere says.
Nigeria's got great talent; if only the system would work!
