GOD Says, Vengeance is Mine. (Romans 12:19; Deuteronomy 32:35). God will indeed avenge the death of Christians slain by Islamic extremists.
“To err is human, to forgive is divine,” this is a divine principle rooted in teachings of the Bible. This principle reminds us all of our human nature and points at the direction (divine) we are to head to. This is the direction the husband of Mrs. Eunice Olawale, a preacher murdered on the 9th of July 2016, while preaching the Gospel in Abuja, Nigeria has decided to take. According to a report from the DailyPostNigeria, Mr. Olawale confirmed it not being an easy thing getting over the horrific fact but he has decided not to “pay evil with evil.” This is leaving to our best ideals and frankly a difficult step to take. It would have been easier for him to curse the assailant and promise to spill the blood of any suspect. He recognizes what God says in the book of Romans in its chapter 12 verses 19 “it is mine to avenge, I will repay”.
Mr. Olawale is humble enough to know that he is not the giver of life and so he cannot take it. For those of us who lack that humility and reverence for a force greater than any other on this earth, the Lord God promises to repay on innocents behalf and to be an agent of anyone who has been wronged. The book of Luke in its chapter 17 verses 3-5 says “be careful how you live. If your brother offends you, take him to task about it, and if he is sorry, forgive him. Yes, if he wrongs you seven times in one day and turns to you and says, 'I am sorry' seven times, you must forgive him. And the apostles said to the Lord, 'give us more faith.'" This is a clarion call on all to forgive as much and as many times as we can, even as wheel of justice takes it full course.
This makes us think of the incident in Kano, reported on the 2nd of June 2016 about a female pastor who was beaten to death by an angry Muslim mob who falsely accused her of “insulting” the Islamic Prophet Mohammed, which she did not. However, even if she had, does that warrant taking her precious life? What could be going through the minds of her loved ones and family members? Are their minds open to the scriptures of the bible or are they going to pick up the cudgels and fight back? Do they trust in the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to fight for them in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for whom they are being persecuted? These questions also stand before us who are enraged by these wicked acts and are passionate about the well-being of our fellow countrymen. Should we ever fall pray and give in, then the enemy would have won, they would have succeeded in subjecting the entire society to their level of savage behavior and cruelty. There is nothing they would love better than chaos in our hearts, minds and actions.
The fact that we have no reports on any counter action from the families of the victims, tell us they understand all these Biblical principles this article tries to espouse and we commend them for that. At the end of the day the true Almighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will fight for us Christians who continue to face unprovoked attack by Islamic extremists. This is God’s promise in the Bible and His Holy Word will never return void to Him.
