The bible tells us that Jesus Christ the Son of God “is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father (God) except through me (Jesus Christ),” book of john 14:6. By his life he was persecuted and died so man can be free. But the freedom he promises is not freedom from persecutions, sufferings or obstacles. It is total and absolute freedom from the gates of hell and the shackles of all demonic powers. The Christians under attack by militants of Boko Haram, those going through the maltreatments of the Fulani herdsmen, Christians living in towns governed by Sharia Law and have to practice their faith in hiding, the Christian onlooker or bystander who practices restraint when he/she gets news of Christian massacres and the citizen of good conscience that knows how ethically and morally wrong it is to take away the life of a fellow citizen, all go through spiritual tests in their everyday life.
Day after day we get reports of Christians being killed and put through some measure of human suffering by Muslims. This month alone (august, 2016) thereligionofpeace.com reports three incidents of Christian killings in Nigeria done by Muslims. It kicked off on the 1st in the city of Ninte, where two Christian women are hacked to death by Fulani herdsmen and one injured. By the 2nd the attacks had picked up a wide pace and nine Christian villagers in the city of Gada Biyu were cut down by Muslim terrorist, who also burned three churches. By the 16th the city of Jemen witnessed a recurring attack by Fulani herdsmen, leaving 10 Christians massacred.
Going back in time we will witness hundreds of incidents in this year alone and not even one incident showing any form of Christian retaliation. This restraint is because they are thought well and is a demonstration of how powerful the church is. By the churches words those persecuted know that this battle is not theirs to fight but for a force greater than all others. Leviticus 19:18, “you shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I AM THE LORD.” The church reiterates these words of the Bible among hundreds of others also found in the Bible. Preaching against vengeance and faith are the core reasons why Christians haven’t responded in a worldly way to the Islamic killings.
To have a one way ticket to hell is to be filled with hate and spiteful thinking. Because the enemy sees you triumph and do well, temptations will sprout from every corner to try and destroy what you have built. Nigeria is popularly known for its amazing churches and fantastic preachers, the church has transformed the lives of millions and it is still doing it. The devil has a big battle coming its way because the spiritual strength of the Church is still at an early stage and is waxing stronger by the day, and GOD's Holy Word remains settled - The gates of Hell shall not prevail against the Church!
